Arlington Mill Community Center/Groundbreaking


















Community activists, Arlington County officals and staff, non-profit organizations, and construction contractors gathered on August 24th at the site of the Arlington Mill Community Center for a groundbreaking ceremony. Construction for the new center will begin immediately; it is slated to open in two years.

Latino Family Day



















Tell Arlington’s Story and the Smithsonian Latino Center sponsored Latino Family Day at the Walter Reed Community Center, 2909 S. 16th St Arlington VA 22204.

It featured the locally-based Mayan dance troupe Grupo Awal (highlighted in many of these photographs), Central American ceramics, live music, storytelling, and talks by archeologist Fabio Amador of National Geographic about Central America’s indigenous civilization.

John Moran




John Moran is a long-time Columbia Pike area resident, with a distinguished career in theater directing and high-end event planning. He was selected for the Wakefield High School Hall of fame in 2007. He was also reecently interviewed by folkorists of the GMU field research team.

Columbia Pike Housing Study meeting





A presentation of work about how the Columbia Pike Housing Study is progressing was shown to the community by the planning team on the last day of the recent charrette week.

From the Pike Neighborhoods website:
"The resulting Columbia Pike Neighborhoods Plan will be the culmination of the Land Use & Housing Study to complete the final phase of the Columbia Pike Initiative. This plan seeks to identify those tools, policies, and initiatives that can be put in place to guide future growth and investment in the residential areas of the Pike corridor according to the community's goals and vision."
