Drew-Botts family

Members of Cathleen Drew's distinguished family have lived in the same home, formerly in an African-American enclave of what is now the Penrose neighborhood, since about 1920. The home, built in 1913, was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976.

Pictured in the photographs are Cathleen Drew and her husband Wayne Botts, and their children, Sarah, Jordan and Adam. Cathleen and Wayne were married at the house.

In the top image, Cathleen (Catie) is holding a photograph of her great-grandfather, Richard Thomas Drew, who was the father of her grandfather Joe Drew, and of her renowned uncle, the pioneering research physician Dr. Charles Drew.

Photography by Lloyd Wolf.
